Interactions – Session 3

Ageing in place: friendly housing experiences in USA and Europe

03.02.2021

Studies show that most people want to live in their homes as long as they can. However, our homes were not designed to adapt throughout our life cycle, particularly when we get older, lose autonomy and/or have to stay at home longer. This was also a lesson learned from the Covid-19 pandemic.

There is a urgent need to look for housing framed by the ageing in place paradigm, where people, throughout their lives and their existential circumstances, can sustain interactive ties between the home and the public space, guaranteeing their citizenship and participation rights.

This third session of the ‘InterActions Symposium starts by examining the situation of housing models suitable for the life cycle, with particular emphasis on what is happening in Europe and USA. After that, community projects that seek to reinforce the approach to the aging in place will be presented.
