Santa Casa signs a memorandum of cooperation with Misericórdia do Porto
The institutions formalised a deal in a number of areas at a meeting held at Casa da Prelada.
Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto have signed a memorandum of cooperation, following a meeting between the two organisations last Monday, 13 July, at Casa da Prelada in Porto. This deal strengthens the ties between two virtually contemporary institutions, both with more than five centuries of history.
António Tavares, Provedor of the Misericórdia do Porto, along with the other members of the Executive Board, welcomed the delegation from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, comprising Provedor Paulo Sousa and directors Ângela Guerra and André Brandão de Almeida.
Following an initial round of introductions, the meeting focused on the areas of Culture, Social Action, Health and Sustainability, in which synergies were identified, experiences shared and some joint initiatives already agreed upon; these will be the first steps in a regular collaboration between the two Misericórdias.
According to Paulo Sousa, it is important for these sister organisations to maintain a relationship based on openness and dialogue, with a view to strengthening the ties between them through the exchange of experiences, skills and knowledge. For his part, António Tavares recalled the shared history of the two Misericórdias over the centuries, noting that the Misericórdia de Lisboa is 528 years old and the Misericórdia do Porto 527.
The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and Porto have another meeting scheduled for the near future, this time in the capital.
