Santa Casa provided €742,000 in support to the Misericórdias and Mediadores organisations affected by the winter storms
The organisation has made these funds available to support work on 37 projects run by Misericórdias and Mediadores dos Jogos Sociais that were affected by Storm Kristin.
In February, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa launched the 2026 Solidarity Fund with a non-repayable grant of one million euros for projects to rebuild facilities belonging to the Misericórdias and the State’s Social Games Mediators that which had suffered damage during last winter’s storms.
The Solidarity Fund remained open for applications until 30 April, having supported 37 reconstruction projects: 24 Misericórdias and 13 Mediadores, totalling €742,000, of which €527,000 has already been spent (71 per cent).
Six months after Storm Kristin, 23 projects had been completed – 13 Misericórdias and 10 Mediadores – with the remainder nearing completion.
The funds were allocated to the restoration of social facilities run by the ‘misericórdias’ affected by the disasters, which had a significant impact on the social fabric. Businesses in the Jogos Santa Casa network that suffered damage from the bad weather also benefited from the Fund, many of them small businesses such as cafés, restaurants, kiosks and tobacconists.
Santa Casa set up the Solidarity Fund in collaboration with the Portuguese Government’s Mission Structure.
