Eligibility requirements
- Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, from the 1st to the 4th year;
- Be attending the course on a full-time basis;

With two leading hospital units, the Centro de Medicina de Reabilitação de Alcoitão and Hospital Ortopédico de Sant’Ana, the latter equipped with a modern operating theatre, Santa Casa also offers Primary Healthcare units, Home Healthcare centers, Integrated Continuing Care units, Residential Care Facilities for Older People (ERPI), and specialized units for Mental Health, Oral Health and Disabilities.

Frequently asked questions
Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, from the 1st to the 4th year of the programme, may apply, provided they are studying on a full-time basis.
There are 15 annual scholarships available, 5 of which are reserved exclusively for students from low-income families. Each scholarship is worth €700 per month.
The selection process includes a document review, a motivation letter and a mandatory interview.
Motivation Letter
The motivation letter, with a maximum length of 500 words, will be assessed by the selection panel based on four main criteria:
- Sensitivity and vocation demonstrated towards the nursing profession;
- Alignment with SCML’s values and mission;
- Commitment to pursuing a professional career within the institution;
- Justification of the need for financial support.
Interview
All shortlisted candidates will be invited to an individual interview lasting approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
The interview will not include questions on academic subject matter. Its purpose is to get to know you better and assess your resilience, empathy, team spirit and how you would deal with everyday situations by drawing on your soft skills.
If, after the main application process, there are still scholarships available, a second application phase will be opened, scheduled for November.

This scholarship is based on reciprocity: SCML supports you now, and in return, you commit to joining the institution’s healthcare teams and working for SCML after completing your degree. In other words, you commit to working for the institution for a period of 3 years.
If you withdraw from the course or decide to terminate your employment with SCML to work for another institution (or abroad), the scholarship will be cancelled, and you will be required to repay the full amount awarded to you under the scholarship programme.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you will receive written notification. The award of the scholarship will only become formalized once a contract has been signed, setting out the obligations established in the relevant Regulations.
