Quinta Alegre, ou Palácio do Marquês do Alegrete
Quinta Alegre was built in the early 18th century as a summer residence by Manuel Teles da Silva, 1st Marquis of Alegrete and 1st Count of Vilar Maior.
Later, in 1819, when the estate was owned by José Bento de Araújo, the interior ceilings and walls were decorated with high-quality Neoclassical paintings.
In 1983, the estate was purchased by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and refurbished in 1987, having been recognised in the 6th edition of the National Urban Rehabilitation Prize in the Restoration category.
The palace, of simple late-Baroque architecture, has a rectangular plan over two floors, with wrought-iron balconies on the upper floor. The building features stone corner pieces and pilasters along the wall sections.
Of particular note are the many tiles placed in the second half of the 18th century, on the interior and in the courtyard, and the wide Romantic Garden of more than 4,000 m² on the exterior.
