Aldeia de Santa Isabel
The Aldeia de Santa Isabel, in Sintra, is a multi-purpose Santa Casa facility — a school for some, a home, family and shelter for others — comprising residential care for children and young people, a residential care home for older adults and a vocational training centre.
It all began in 1923 with the seed sown by Father Agostinho da Motta, the Orfanato Escola Santa Isabel, which would later become part of a typical saloia village recreated on this 6.5-hectare site, with charming corners and green areas connecting three generations in an intergenerational culture.
At the centre of the Aldeia de Santa Isabel lies the Praça da Alegria, a space where the community gathers for activities that bridge ages and skills.
The Aldeia de Santa Isabel offers a vast outdoor area, including a large sports pavilion.
