The Centro de Medicina de Reabilitação de Alcoitão was inaugurated in 1966, with the dual aim of rehabilitating people with physical disability and training specialised staff in Portugal.

The Centre has provided its teams with access to up-to-date technologies and equipment across its various areas of intervention.

The architectural project is by Sebastião Formosinho Sanches, with the collaboration of the sculptor Martins Correia, the artist behind the sculpture that adorns the interior garden.

The hexagonal auditorium stands out, as do the various outdoor areas, the corridors, the physiotherapy rooms and the transitional residences.
