The Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão was the result of reorganising the Escola de Reabilitação de Alcoitão, which until then had been part of the Centro de Medicina de Reabilitação de Alcoitão.

Despite its recent integration into the national education system, the School has accumulated more than 45 years of experience in training physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists, having been the first school in Portugal to train professionals in these specialisms.
