Recolhimento das Merceeiras
The Recolhimento das Merceeiras, with some Pombaline features, was commissioned by Queen Maria I in 1785 to rehouse the merceeiras, who, having received a "mercê" (royal favour) from the King, were required to attend the divine offices.
The Mercearia da Sé, founded by King Afonso IV and his wife Queen Beatrice, was a public charitable institution intended to take in and provide for older people of good social standing who, aged over 50, had fallen into “envergonhada” (genteel) poverty.
In 2015, SCML incorporated it into its estate.
