In this activity, pupils will discover one of the most impressive parts of the Igreja de São Roque: the Chapel of St John the Baptist, built on the orders of the powerful King João V, as well as the valuable artefacts housed in the Museu de São Roque.

With the help of images, games and fascinating stories, they will discover how this chapel was built in Rome using rare materials such as gold and coloured marble, and transported to Lisbon as a veritable treasure.

Children explore the Baroque style, the symbols hidden within the art and the king’s role in Portuguese culture. The activity encourages learning through play, fostering a keen eye and a love of discovering the secrets of our history.
