More modern and inclusive: welcome to Santa Casa’s new website
The portal, which was built from scratch in accordance with accessibility criteria, features a number of new additions, including an English-language version.

Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa has a new website. The web address remains the same, but the entire site has been built from scratch, with accessibility as its guiding principle. The new site follows the latest recommendations in this area, complying with the WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines and the European standard EN 301 549, which apply to websites, mobile applications and other technological products, with the aim of ensuring that content is accessible to everyone, including users with disabilities. Consequently, this revamp addresses the limitations of the previous version and now fully adheres to best practice in user experience.
Santa Casa’s new website, developed in-house by Direção de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informação (DISTI), aims to respond effectively to all users, whatever their specific needs may be, always in the spirit of inclusion. Examples of this include keyboard navigation throughout the site, high contrast levels and generous touch areas for mobile use. Furthermore, thanks to simple, intuitive and predictable navigation, any section of the site is no more than three clicks away. There are also new filters to assist with searches and a table of contents at the top of longer pages, so that users always know how to find what they are looking for. Alongside these new features, one of the major innovations of Santa Casa’s new website is that it is bilingual, offering an English-language version.
It should be noted that this new version also takes into account the fact that around 66 per cent of users access the website via mobile devices, so it is designed to adapt to any screen size.
