Good Causes are already on the road with the Volta a Portugal Jogos Santa Casa
The prologue brought excitement to Lisbon and saw the first yellow jersey of the race awarded, which promotes the social causes supported by the proceeds from the Jogos Santa Casa.
The 87th edition of the Volta a Portugal Jogos Santa Casa got underway this Wednesday, 5 August, with the prologue taking place in Lisbon. The charitable causes supported by the proceeds from the social games are thus setting off across the country, riding in the wake of the yellow jersey.
Many people were keen not to miss the start of this legendary national cycling race, which this year has Jogos Santa Casa as its ‘name sponsor’.
An individual time trial of just over 6 km, starting and finishing at Praça do Império, set the first times of the competition.
Julius Johansen (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) was the fastest rider of the day and is the first wearer of the yellow jersey, which in this edition features a list of various social causes supported by the proceeds from the Jogos Santa Casa, in line with the recent campaign “When a Portuguese person bets, two or three people win straight away”, regarding the destination of punters’ money.
The Volta a Portugal Jogos Santa Casa now continues across the country, from north to south.
