Residência Faria Mantero
The Residência Faria Mantero was the home of Enrique Mantero Belard and his wife Gertrudes Verdades de Faria, a humanist with a love for the arts. Always attentive to those most in need, she wished that, after her death, the property would operate as a residential structure for older people who had distinguished themselves through cultural merit.
Under the bequest made to the Misericórdia de Lisboa by Enrique Mantero Belard, the building was to house “older, cultured, distinguished and needy persons” and be named “Residência Faria Mantero”.
Of particular note is the first-floor room that preserves Faria Mantero’s library and workspace, as well as three beautiful ground-floor rooms with distinctive decoration reflecting the personal taste of its former occupants. A piano evokes the festive social and cultural atmosphere of the hosts.
