Our approach
We contribute substantially and actively to sustainable environmental, economic and social development.

We are committed to contributing decisively to the progress, well-being and improved quality of life of citizens — especially those most in need — by working substantially and actively for sustainable environmental, economic and social development.
To meet this commitment, we work every day to defend inclusion, justice and social equity, in order to promote the well-being and quality of life of those most in need and to foster their integration into society. To that end, our mission converges with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by contributing, on our scale, to the targets set out.
Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developed in 2015 by the United Nations and integrated into the 2030 Agenda, seek to set out the priorities and aspirations for global sustainable development by 2030, with the aim of mobilising global efforts around a set of shared goals and targets.
The mission of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa aligns with the 2030 Agenda
While the institution has the potential to contribute directly and indirectly to the SDGs overall, the most significant goals within the current strategic cycle stand out.
Sustainability Policy
The basis of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa's commitment to sustainability is set out in the Sustainability Policy, whose overall aim is to embed sustainability across the institution's entire activity cycle.
Vision
To make Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa a sustainable, responsible, innovative and close-at-hand institution, for good causes.
Commitment
Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa is committed to contributing decisively to the progress, well-being and improved quality of life of citizens — especially those most in need — by working substantially and actively for sustainable environmental, economic and social development. Sustainability must be embedded in all of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa's decision-making processes, so as to contribute at all times, and across all activities, to the pursuit of its statutory aims.
The need for the rational and more efficient use of the natural resources available to the institution, minimising the environmental impact of its activity.
The engagement of its stakeholders, ensuring that their concerns and expectations are reflected in the management of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
The promotion of the well-being of the institution's workers, since they are its vital capital and ensure the fulfilment of its mission.
The strengthening of transparency in management and organisational activity — crucial for an institution with an enormous responsibility towards its stakeholders and a wide scope of multi-sector intervention in society.
The search for new ways to increase the positive impact of Misericórdia de Lisboa on the surrounding community.
Stakeholder management
We consider that our mission can only be fully accomplished if we promote the engagement of those, individuals and organisations, with whom we engage — our stakeholders. We therefore work to develop regular consultation processes as a means of gathering feedback on the needs, expectations and interests of our stakeholders and to incorporate them into our strategy.
Our stakeholders
Listening to our stakeholders — both internal (the entire internal perspective of staff) and external (the other groups that influence and are influenced by the organisation) — is one of the processes that helps determine which governance, social and environmental issues should be considered relevant to the institution's development.
