September gets off to a flying start with a strong focus on craft and artistic activities, featuring the Painting Workshop at the Centro de Dia Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, the Creative Workshops at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I, the Cooking Workshop at the S. Cristóvão and S. Lourenço Multi-purpose Social Centre, the Active Afternoons at the Centro de Promoção Social da PRODAC, the Plastic Recycling Workshop also at PRODAC, and Recicl’Art at the Family Support Centre.

Learning and intellectual development are equally central, with the Reading Club and English Sessions at Rainha D. Maria I, the Themed Gatherings at the Quinta Alegre Residential Care Home, Digital Literacy at the Centro de Dia Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, the Chess Club at the CSP S. Cristóvão e S. Lourenço, and the MentalMente programme at the Centro Social de São Boaventura.

International Day of Older Persons is marked with particular emphasis, both at the Centro Social de São Boaventura, which organises an afternoon of socialising and celebration, and at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I, where the ‘Há Festa no Rainha’ initiative brings together the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum, the ‘Pedalar sem Idade’ project and a performance by ‘Tardes Líricas’, in an intergenerational gathering that celebrates participation and collective memory.

Activities focusing on physical wellbeing are taking place across various venues, with Pilates classes and open sessions at the Centro de Dia do Alto Pina, physical activity and wellbeing sessions at the S. Cristóvão e S. Lourenço, bowling and boccia sessions at the same centre, Biodanza at the Centro Social de São Boaventura, at the CSP S. Cristóvão and S. Lourenço and at the Centro de Dia Nossa Senhora dos Anjos; movement sessions at the Centro Social de São Boaventura; adapted, localised and maintenance-focused gymnastics at PRODAC; Zumba classes also at PRODAC; boccia at the Bairro dos Lóios Community Development Centre (CDC) and outdoor walks at the same venue.

In October, the programme places greater emphasis on culture and the arts.

With initiatives such as ‘No Rainha Acontece’, ‘Música Sobre Rodas’, ‘Expressão Musical’ and ‘Canto Real’, all taking place at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I. Social participation takes centre stage with Open Night with Fados at the Centro de Dia do Alto Pina, celebrating International Older Persons’ Month and bringing together service users, families and the community in an atmosphere of sharing and cultural identity. The month also includes guided tours and talks at Santa Casa’s cultural venues, such as the Museu de São Roque, Casa Ásia and the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum, deepening knowledge of heritage, spirituality and the visual arts.

Emotional and sensory wellbeing is promoted through Snoezelen sessions at the Quinta Alegre Residential Care Home for the Elderly, Movement and Rhythm activities at the S. Cristóvão e S. Lourenço, Bauer Therapy, Reiki and Music Therapy at the Centro de Dia do Alto Pina, as well as Mindfulness and Meditation practices at the Bairro dos Lóios Community Development Centre. Religious and spiritual activities include the Celebration of the Word at the CSP S. Cristóvão and S. Lourenço and at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I, reinforcing the dimension of inner reflection.

Leisure and recreational activities take place across various facilities, with Bingo at the CSP S. Cristóvão and S. Lourenço, the ‘Musically Cultural’ Quiz and Bingo at Rainha D. Maria I, ‘Toca a Mexer’ at PRODAC, ‘Cycling for All’ and ‘Pedalling for All’ also at PRODAC, as well as themed initiatives such as ‘Our Flavours’ and ‘Request a Track’ at the Family Support Centre.

The SET/OUT 2026 Socio-Cultural Programme demonstrates, once again, the vitality of Santa Casa’s facilities and the central role they play in building a more inclusive and participatory city.
