Socio-cultural programme for July and August: creativity, wellbeing and community involvement

The months of July and August bring a wide-ranging and diverse programme of socio-cultural events at Santa Casa’s facilities. The Socio-Cultural Programme features dozens of initiatives that promote social interaction, creativity, wellbeing and active community participation.

In July, the programme features initiatives that combine artistic expression, learning and community participation. At the Ameixoeira Community Development Centre, the Creative Expressions Workshop takes place every Tuesday, promoting “mutual support and active community participation” through creative activities. At the Centro de Dia Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, the Painting Workshop offers an ongoing course in acrylic painting, with guided exercises and technical demonstrations. Meanwhile, at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I, the Creative Workshops run weekly craft sessions, open to the public upon registration.

The intellectual and learning aspects are also prominent. The Themed Gatherings at ERPI Quinta Alegre encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences, whilst the Reading Club at the Centro de Dia Rainha D. Maria I fosters moments of reflection and the sharing of texts. At the same centre, the ‘Ativamente’ sessions stimulate memory and reasoning through games, proverbs and cognitive challenges.

The community aspect is strengthened by initiatives such as the Neighbours’ Circle at the Ameixoeira Community Centre (CDC), which promotes mutual support and intergenerational socialisation, and the Roma Women’s Forum, organised by AIMA and AMUCIP, which creates a space for dialogue and women’s empowerment. At the Centro Social São Boaventura, ‘Short Film Day’ celebrates audiovisual creativity, including short films made by the service users themselves.

In the field of physical activity and wellbeing, the programme offers options to suit different profiles and needs: Pilates and Zumba for Seniors classes at the Centro de Dia do Alto Pina, Snoezelen sessions at the Quinta Alegre Residential Care Home, Bauer Therapy, Reiki, Music Therapy and the Zen Space, all promoting relaxation, emotional balance and quality of life. Dance also features, with intergenerational sessions at the Centro Comunitário de Telheiras, where participants learn Kizomba, Funaná and Semba.

Leisure and recreational activities foster a spirit of camaraderie and fun, with games of bingo, card games, walks around Lisbon and boccia competitions at various venues. The cultural aspect is further enhanced by the ‘Viver a Cidade’ tour, organised by UASE, which takes participants to the Carris Museum to explore the history of Lisbon’s public transport.

Through workshops, physical activities, wellbeing sessions, intergenerational gatherings and cultural visits, Santa Casa invites the community to get involved, discover new experiences and experience Lisbon’s community life throughout July and August.
