Established over five centuries ago, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa is a private institution of public administrative utility, grounded in social values and operating with proximity and respect.
MISSION
Since its founding, the mission has been to enhance the well-being of all citizens, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable.
We work across Social Welfare, Health, Education and Training, Culture, Heritage, Research, and Innovation. Additionally, we support Entrepreneurship and social economy initiatives.
History
Founded in 1498 by Queen Leonor, the institution is recognized for its centuries of charitable work.

STRATEGY
To fulfill its mission, the Board of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa has established strategic objectives for the period 2022-2025. The guiding motto is: “Overcoming the challenge, strengthening the future.”
The vision is to create an ecosystem of well-being, utilizing a performance model that focuses on present management with a view to the future:
Structuring a response for dignified aging
- Contributing to aging with autonomy and in the community
- Qualifying and diversifying the scope and support services for dependents
Breaking the cycle of poverty with children and youth
- Promoting the full citizenship of children and youth to respond to local and global challenges
Establishing an integrative, structured, and coordinated response for vulnerable groups
- Contributing to the emancipation of people in vulnerable situations in the community
- Promoting professional training and supported employment, focusing the response on personal vocation
Building a diverse and robust society

The 2022-2025 strategy aligns with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
This strategy was defined following a consultative process. The Misericórdia de Lisboa Board facilitated debate through participatory seminars and an online questionnaire open to all employees.
